seleneheart: A luna moth against a golden full moon with a Celtic knotwork border (Luna Moth)

I spent the last two months unable to access any of my art supplies, other than my iPad and Apple pencil. This painting is me challenging myself to really dig into Procreate and learn how to paint with it like I would with an acrylic painting.

I pulled up the pictures I had saved on my iPad, found one of a wood duck standing in an icy stream, and split screened it with Procreate. I started with really rough shapes, and just kept refining and refining it until I was happy with it.

Inspired by the 'Moonstone' prompt at the [community profile] sunshine_challenge. These are taken with two different types of light sources, so the metallic paint shows really well in one, but the normal water color paint shows better in the other.

For the [community profile] sunshine_challenge. When I read that Amphitrite had a crab-shell helmet, I immediately thought of cheek protectors made of crab claws.

Colored pencil on toned paper, with some gel pen work.

Done with Copic markers. I may go back and try it again with watercolors, if I get time.

Title: The Polar Sea
Artist: [personal profile] seleneheart
Rating: G
Fandom: original art
Characters/Pairings: whale mermaid
Content Notes: I was searching for bathing suit pics for references for this challenge and saw a pic of someone in a bikini resting on the edge of a sheet of ice and wearing a toque. Thus we have this whale mermaid. I had way too much fun making the cracks in the ice berg and had to stop myself. Kept the palette limited to get it desaturated. Watercolors (everything except the toque is ultramarine, burnt sienna, and phthalo blue), Pentalic Aquajournal.

I decided to see if I could turn a cell phone pic into a decent graphic. I think it came out okay! Repost from my Tumblr.
