Slumbering Hearts Art Post

Slumbering Hearts: Sam is an artist (painter). After losing his mother and fiancé to a serial killer, he hides himself away in a remote mountain cabin. He keeps to himself, only really talking to his brother Dean, ex-military sheriff of Angel's Pass, the nearby town. When a blizzard rolls through and strands itinerant musician Gabriel with him, feelings Sam had thought long dead begin to wake up. Can two lonely souls help each other heal?

This year I was delighted to get [livejournal.com profile] jassy3399's marvelously sweet and romantic fic, Slumbering Hearts. I wanted romance with a side of healing and this fic was fabulous for that. Go read!

This is my third [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang, and my second as an artist and I wanted to thank [livejournal.com profile] wendy and [livejournal.com profile] thehighwaywoman for all the work they put into this challenge every year. I've done other BB's and so far, this one is run the best, as far as efficiency, information, and clarity. Also, many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] uisgich for her feedback on my work as it was in progress.

None of these are particularly spoilery for the story.

Abstract: I wanted this one to be very symbolic of some of the elements in the story, but at the same time a fairly simple composition.

Story Framing Painting: OMG, I made so many drafts of the mountains! This is version #8, I think. I wanted to try my hand at painting something entirely from scratch. The cabin is the only part of this that I did using a reference photo. This is the main setting for the story.

Title Art: In keeping with the romance novel idea of the story, I wanted it to have its own distinct title art. Although the pencil sketch didn't take that long, turning it into acceptable lettering on Photoshop was the most time-consuming part of this process.

Original scanned sketch:

Title art with a couple different backgrounds:

Wallpaper: A more traditional composition (for me anyway) with the characters.

I have to say again, I really really love these. And one of these days, I'll figure out how to include them within the fic itself without hotlinking here. /facepalm I've done it before, I just need to remember how! Thank you again for sharing your talent with me

That setting is gorgeous. I ended up reading the fic before looking at the art, but it's pretty much exactly how I imagined it while reading so that's kind of blown me away. :D The wallpaper is wonderful and the divider is so fitting. I love it all. <3<3<3 Amazing work!
