D&G Print ad
Photoshop Elements 4.0. This was inspired by a tutorial at
crabshack_iconz, but I modified it for my program and changed some other things.
This is taking a big print ad, pulling out part of it . . .

1. crop, magic extractor to remove the girl’s hand and then background

2. Then, I didn’t like the coloring, wasn’t strong enough for me, so first filter > unsharpen mask, then enhance > autocontrast. That didn’t do enough, so I played around with the contract levels until I had it where I liked it.
3. Duplicate the file. I always do this, just in case. Because Elements doesn’t have some of bells and whistles, it’s just handy to have a un-doinked up copy of your base
4. Then I pasted this texture,which I got from http://www.coolnotions.com:

set to multiply, 100%, which I first washed out so it looks like this:

5. Now we have this:

6. Duplicate the base and drag it to the top. Erase everywhere the background covers the texture:

7. Use the magic wand tool and select your background areas, and then stroke a 2px border on the inside, 50% opacity, in any light color that works with your color scheme. I used e3dfe0.

8. I didn’t like how the border for the guys also went around the edge of the square, so I erased that part.

9. Border, new layer, select, edit > stroke, 2 px, choosing a color from the icon with the eyedropper. I used 5a4a4c.
10. Text, pick some sort of script. The first part is done in black, small font. The second part “yours” is done in the same font, large font, white, 50% opacity. I free rotated the text box until it pretty much aligned with the arm. I didn’t like the way they overlapped, so I switched the layers.
11. Final product.
